Data on your terms: Introducing flexible data retention options
The subject of data access is complex; there are many reasons why you may want more or less data retention in the applications that you use. Offering additional data retention options has been a highly requested feature among our users, so we’re happy to announce the Activity data retention add-on is now available for Starter accounts and above!
These options will give you additional flexibility and control when it comes to how long your account’s activity data is stored. Need to keep your data for longer? No problem, simply select the period that suits your needs. Prefer not to store your activity data at all? There’s an option for that too.

Extend your activity history for up to 365 days
All paid plans can extend their data retention. As standard, Starter plans include 7 days of data retention, while Professional and Enterprise plans include 30 days.
With the new add-on options, you can choose to retain your activity data for 7, 30, 90, 180, or 365 days. What’s more, if you’d prefer not to retain activity in your account for any period of time, you can select the option Don’t store content, giving you full control over your activity data.
And, if you increase your data retention period and change your mind later, there’s no problem. You can simply revert back to your account’s standard data retention allowance at any time.
Why you might need additional data retention
Since a lot of users have requested this feature, we know many of you already have a plan for how to utilize extra activity data. But if you’re wondering whether or not you should extend your data retention, here are a few examples of how it can assist in managing your email system.
30 days retention
Having access to 30 days of email activity data is most useful for troubleshooting recent email delivery issues and investigating suspicious activity or potential security incidents. It can also help with short-term analysis of your strategy.
90 days retention
With 90 days of activity data, you can evaluate the impact of any changes you’ve made to your templates or overall strategy. It’s also useful for analyzing the performance over a fiscal quarter and identifying patterns in customer behavior or seasonal trends.
180 days retention
180 days of activity data enable you to conduct mid-term analyses of performance and strategies. It will also give you more historical visibility into ongoing issues or suspicious activity, allowing you to better gauge when issues began. Plus, it’s useful for identifying longer-term trends in customer behavior.
365 days retention
With 365 days of activity data, you can better support long-term planning with year-over-year analyses and more easily preserve data for annual reporting and more extensive audits. Plus, you’ll get deeper insights into customer behavior throughout the full lifecycle of longer-term customer relationships.
How to extend your data retention period
So does more historical visibility into your email activity sound useful for your organization? Here’s how you can extend your data retention in the MailerSend app.
1. Log in to MailerSend and go to Plan and billing at the bottom of the left-hand menu.
2. Select the Add-ons tab and scroll down to the Activity data retention add-on.
3. Select the data retention period you would like to purchase and click Get this add-on.
Pricing
Pricing for the add-on is on a per-month basis and depends on your email volume. The correct price for your plan size will be automatically reflected in the Add-on section when you go to purchase.

FAQs
Can I switch plans later?
You can switch plans at any time. If you extend your data retention, the upgrade will only apply to data moving forward from the date of the add-on purchase. If you decide to downgrade to a lower data retention period, data from outside of the new limit will be lost.
What happens when my storage add-on duration expires?
When your data retention period ends, data from outside of your chosen period will be deleted. For example, if you have 30 days of data retention, when activity data becomes 31 days old, it will be deleted.
Is this available to all users?
The data retention add-on is available for Starter plans and above.
